You need to remember that most people have their agenda, and they interpret the scriptures in the way they wish in order for it to fit into their view of things. The last place I would look for interpretation of prophecy is the internet. Instead, you may find yourself having to do a little more research on what you want answers to. I suggest reading some well balanced Bible commentaries. When you compare them you will be able to see how the verses in question have been historically interpreted, and then go from there. Personally I enjoy books that where written OVER 100+ ago. Whatever you do, don't get caught up in some "End of Days" scare that plays right into the hands of your emotions. Instead, do reasearch, take your time, and think about the subject matter.
Some of the books available from ChristianBooks.com are well priced and contain such information. You will allways be better off to reseach a book before you ever buy it. Make sure it is a balanced author and not some crazy (WBTS).

Is this a valid point about Bible prophecies?
by apple78 inok, forgive me if this sounds silly but it came to me today.
people keep talking about the earth and its disasters and the fulfilling of prophecies and end times.
but is there a counter argument to these prophecies?

What Was I Agreeing to at my Baptism, Anyway?
by prophecor ini was so awash with emotion during the day of my being baptised, i think i would've answered yes to having a root canal.
what was it i was swearing my allegiance to on that ominous day?
are there a standard set of questions that they ask all baptismal candidates at these cermonial offerings?

When I got baptized I was under the impression that everything was "Bible Based" and that the scriptures could not be read any other way. Keep in mind I was 17 at the time. Not what I would call the age of understanding. Anyway, later on I began to see that what the Watchtower teaches is INTERPRETATION and not simply understanding the Bible the only way it can be understood. Following a dogmatic interpretation of the Bible is really what the Watchtower delivers.
I know some that view the baptism that they recieved as invalid and an acceptance of the JW ideaology. I understand their view. For me though, my baptism was between me and my creator. I was baptized because I believed in the principle of using the Bible as the guide to your life, accepting Jesus and our Heavenly father. To me, that dedication was between me and God, not a dedication to an organization run by men. -

"We are the only religion on earth that can claim to be unhypocritical."
by Bonnie_Clyde inthose are the exact words of the po's wife today at the wt study.
i wrote them down as she said them.
the next comment by one of the servants was, "if we accept the authority of the faithful and discreet slave, we cannot go wrong.

This is the sad mental attitude many of us are familiar with. It shows how people rely so much upon man made religious structres and not upon God. This same thinking has been the downfall of Christianity since its very beginning.

Bethel Downsizing Again!
by zack ini do not know if any of you have heard.
no one in my congo.
other than one other elder on the body has heard:.

Jehovah is gonna be giving out the pink slips.
Why do they keep telling the "young ones" to reach out for Bethel service? I guess it looks good in the magazines. Just like printing in the Watchtower that people need to "Reach Out" for Gilead. What are the chances of ever getting to go to that? Totally lame. -

1914 question
by drew sagan input aside all of the 607 b.c.e., there is another question that i'm not familiar with and mabyee some of you know what there explanation is, or if they don't even address the issue.
we are all familiar with the account in daniel chapter five, and nebuchadnezzars dream about the tree.
daniels explanation of this dream begins: .

Thanks for your explanation Keith. I simply can't believe that I never once questioned this most basic idea. The only way the Watchtower can insert its own idea into the interpretation is by stressing the scripture that speaks of his acknowledgement of Jehovah as "most high is ruler in the kingdom of mankind". This is very strained reasoning.
Thanks for everybodys input.
And Slave1111, good luck to you. -

The President
by lime05 insince the jehovah's witness organization currently rejects most of the teachings of its founder charles taze russell and since they also reject "judge" joseph franklin rutherford, who succeeded russell as president from 1916 - 1942, how can we be sure that in 25 more years, jehovah's witnesses won't also reject the current president, milton g. henschel (1992 - present), as they did russell and rutherford?
-
drew sagan
Because the light keeps getting brighter. We don't reject Russell and Rutherford, we simply see more clearly now what they did not. This is all part of Gods wonderful plan, to refine his people. Jehovah is blessing his organizaion and all those who follow this path will...
Forget that, just wait 15 years and their entire Library will be a differant color. -

What gives your life meaning/purpose?
by MsMcDucket ini know that this question must of been asked before, but i wasn't here when it was asked.
so, i'm asking again.
how do you get by when you're stressed to the point of no return?

Leaving the Watchtower (mentally) goes hand in hand with answering this question for yourself. After I realized that a particular religions interpretation of the Bible is not what life is all about I feel that the scriptures have been open up to me. My faith in God keeps me going. I know he's there, and lets things go on for his purpose. Do I have all the answers, NO! But that's life, it's a journey that i'm enjoying. Life has ups and downs. Instead of feeling bad for myself about all the downs I simply see them as a part of life. To not feel and expierance them would anti-human.
